Hilton Young Sr., known on stage as GF Soldier, has spent more than two decades using words to reach places ordinary conversation often cannot.
His journey began in New Orleans after the loss of his grandmother. Hilton turned to journaling to process his grief, and those private reflections soon became poems.
An open mic gave him a place to share them, but what began as personal healing quickly became something greater.
Long before Hilton understood the full weight of his gift, the signs were already present.
As a child, he memorized and performed the work of Langston Hughes. In high school, he delivered Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Mountaintop speech. Years later, an elder at his church heard one of his poems and told him plainly, “You have a gift.”
Hilton eventually carried that gift to spoken word stages across the country and around the world.
As his ministry grew, so did his understanding of the people he was called to serve.
Hilton returned to school to study psychology and counseling, turning a history of academic struggle into a story of discipline, discovery, and growth.
Today, Hilton brings every part of that journey to the stage.
The poet.
The teacher.
The coach.
The student.
The father.
The man who made mistakes, accepted responsibility, and chose transformation.
